Faith Walk

When You’re Sinking

For the one
who feels like
you are in
way over your head.

The one who
doesn’t know how
to swim and stay afloat in
this diagnosis,
this marriage,
this parenting role,
this divorce,
this caregiving role,
this conflict,
this battle,
this bank statement,
this season.

Sometimes
(oftentimes, in fact),
no matter
how hard we try
to keep our head
(and our heart!)
above water,
the current is
too strong,
the swirling and pulling
of the circumstance
too much,
the water of our situation
too deep.

Try as we might,
we are helpless
to save ourself.

We need a Savior.

And praise God
in Jesus
we have one.

Not only a Savior
who saves us
from our sin,
but a Savior
who steps into
our everyday life,
extends His nail-scarred hand
and pulls us up.

He lifts us
from that which
we feel
will drown us
and sets us
on a firm foundation –
Himself.

The solid Rock.

And from
this vantage point,
we realize
nothing is
too strong,
too much,
or too deep
for our God.

And we rest
in the beautiful truth that
we aren’t called
to swim through this
in our own power,

we are called
to navigate through it
in HIS
.

Our Savior
will be faithful
to carry us through,
we simply need
to reach out,
take hold of His hand,
and never let go.
