God is Faithful

How gracious
is our God
to always
go before us.

In His loving kindness,
He never
sends us somewhere
or calls us to something
unless He
has already gone before,
unless He
has already prepared the way,
unless He
is already there.

In all things,
and in all ways,
He will always
hold to His word.
He will always keep
His promises.

What gives us
the courage
to go,
to step out,
to follow His lead,
is remembering
who God is:
God is faithful.

“Abraham!” God called.

“Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.”

“Take your son, your only son –
yes, Isaac, whom you love so much –
and go to the land of Moriah.
Go and sacrifice him as a
burnt offering on one
of the mountains,
which I will show you.”
~Genesis 22:1-2

So. Abraham. went.

Knowing full well
God had gone before
and was already there,
Abraham loaded up
his donkey,
gathered his servants,
chopped wood for a sacrifice,
took his son Isaac,
and headed for Moriah.

Knowing full well
God would
lead him
to the exact spot
for the altar,
Abraham walked
for three days
until God revealed
it to him.

Knowing full well
God would
somehow and in some way
hold to his promise
to bring generations
as numerous as the stars
through his son, Isaac,
Abraham told his servants
“Stay here with the donkey.
The boy and I
will travel a little farther.
We will worship there,
and then we will come right back.”
~Genesis 22:5

Knowing full well
God would
intervene and
God. would. do. something. –
when Isaac turned to
Abraham and said,
“We have the fire and the wood,
but where is the lamb
for the burnt offering?”
Abraham replied,
“God himself
will provide the lamb
for the burnt offering.”
~Genesis 22:8

Knowing full well
God is full of love,
God is true to His word,
God keeps His promises,
God can be trusted
no. matter. what. –
Abraham bound
his son, Isaac,
put him on the altar
and with knife in hand,
he lifted his hand
toward heaven.

And the God of Heaven –
the God of Abraham,
the God of Isaac,
and the God of
yet to be Jacob –
the God who is always
faithful to go before
and the God who is always
faithful to keep His promises
called out to Abraham.

“Abraham, Abraham!”

He replied, “Here I am.”

Then he said,
“Do not lay a hand
on the boy
or do anything to him.”
~Genesis 22:11-12

And there,
in the thicket –
just at this moment,
was a ram.

Just like Abraham
had told his servants,
he and Isaac worshipped
the God of Heaven
and then they
came right back.

How gracious
is our God
to always
go before us.

In His loving kindness,
He never
sends us somewhere
or calls us to something
unless He
has already gone before,
unless He
has already prepared the way,
unless He
is already there.

In all things,
and in all ways,
He will always
hold to His word.
He will always keep
His promises.

What gives us
the courage
to go,
to step out,
to follow His lead,
is remembering
who God is:
God is faithful.~
