In The Midnight Moments

All night long, Lord,

when sleep would have

been my companion,

it was You, Father God,

speaking words

to my inner most being instead.

While I listened

to the steady breathing of my husband

sleeping close by my side,

You, Faithful God,

breathed anew Your

life-empowering,

faith-infusing,

direction-give,

grace-dispensing,

soul-cleansing,

Spirit upon me.

Thank you, Lord.

To think –

You would choose

to spend the midnight hours

communing with me,

Lord.

To think –

You would choose

to pour out Yourself so completely

refilling me,

Lord.

To think –

You,

the creator of the universe,

the Alpha and Omega,

the beginning and the end,

the King of Kings and Lord of Lords,

the Great I Am,

know the who of who I am

and chose to abide with me last night.

And yet, Lord,

I know You are with me always.

Not simply in the midnight moments, Lord,

when all is still and my heart is quiet,

but in the midst of my daylight hours, too.

Lord, help me not to miss You.

No matter what is happening around me,

no matter what is swirling around inside me,

no matter where I might be,

no matter what I might be doing,

no matter the time, the place, or the hour,

don’t let me miss You.

May my Spirit ever be attuned to Yours.

May I always feel You near me.

May I never miss a moment in Your presence.

May my heart ever be in communion with You, Father God.

Oh, Lord,

You are mine,

and me,

I want to be yours,

COMPLETELY,

all the days (and nights!) of my life.

In Jesus’ precious name
