True Christmas
Christmas
doesn’t come
wrapped neatly
in a white box,
with a
big, red shiny bow.
Christmas,
true Christmas –
comes in
the most
unexpected way.
While young
and engaged
and expectantly hopeful
as she looked forward
to life as a new bride,
Mary suddenly
found herself
looking into
the face of an angel,
who announced
with great joy
she would soon be
expectant with
the Hope of the world –
the Messiah.
While wandering
the mountainside
and gazing upon
a field of sheep,
shepherds suddenly
found themselves
gazing upon
an angel choir
filling them
with a wonder
that caused
them to wander
after the star
in search of
the Good News.
While lost
in the hopelessness
and the helplessness
of our own
humanness,
you and I suddenly,
through the
revelation of
the Spirit of God
begin to realize
and to truly understand
the message
and the miracle
of Jesus:
Jesus
the Son of God,
Jesus
the Savior of the World,
Jesus
the only one
who can ever
save us and rescue us
from us.
More than
a package
of white,
wrapped neatly
with a red bow,
Christmas
brings us
face to face
and heart to heart
with the spotless
lamb of God
whose crimson blood
flowed down
the cross of Calvary
to release
you and me
from the grip
of sin and death.
More than
a package
that is beautifully
wrapped,
Christmas –
true Christmas –
is the unwrapping
of religion
and the traditions of men
and suddenly –
often unexpectedly-
discovering
the gift
that was given
to us
that night
long ago in Bethlehem –
J E S U S.
Christmas
doesn’t come
wrapped neatly
in a white box,
with a
big, red shiny bow.
Christmas,
true Christmas –
comes in
the most
unexpected way.
Through a
humble young mother
and a supernatural birth
in a manger.
Through the Spirit of God
and the supernatural rebirth
of you and me.
Through the fulfillment
of a God
who is faithful
to keep His promises
and do what
only He can do.
Through the saving of
you and me
with a piece
of His own heart –
His own precious Son –
Jesus.~
