Faith Walk

Thy Will Be Done

We sit across
from each other,
sharing a table
at our favorite
meet up location.

Too many miles
and a stateline
keep us apart
most of the time,
but for today,
we are face to face.

It was God
who first
introduced us,
and it is God
who holds
our hearts together
still.

In our love
for Him,
we are soul sisters.

“I’ve just felt
so far away from God,”
my precious friend says.
“But then, Stac,
I could just feel Him.
And I started
going through scriptures
and they were all
about His will.”

For the next
four and a half hours,
while the waiter
tops off our water
and we share in
conversation and
good food,
we talk about
God’s will.

What is it?
What does it
look like
lived out in our life?
How do we
know we are
in God’s will?

We talk about
the importance
of not letting
anything or anyone
get in the way
of our relationship
and intimacy
with God.

We share about
our own struggles
to die to self,
to kill the flesh,
to completely
surrender to God
that He might
truly live through us.

We remind each other
the only way
we can clearly hear
God’s voice
over the noise
of the world,
over the chaos and confusion
of our own heart,
is by renewing
our mind daily
with the truth
found in God’s word.

We urge one another
to get rest,
to eat healthy,
to take daily walks.

And as He
is faithful to do,
the Holy Spirit
brings to mind
scriptures to
guide us and
our conversation –

to point our eyes
to Him as we
talk about the
concerns in our lives,

to know God’s will
in her life,
in my life.

“Rejoice always,
pray constantly,
give thanks
in everything;
for this is
God’s will
for you
in Christ Jesus.”
~1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Therefore, brothers and {soul} sisters,
in view of the mercies of God,
I urge you to present your bodies
as a living sacrifice,
holy and pleasing to God;
this is your true worship.
Do not be conformed
to this age,
but be transformed
by the renewing
of your mind,
so that you may discern
what is the good, pleasing,
and perfect will of God.”
~Romans 12:1-2

The time passes quickly
and soon it’s time
to lay down our napkins
and push back our seats.

She is traveling through
and needs to get
back on the road
that will lead her
home again.

We both hesitate –
knowing our time
here with each other,
here with our God
is sacred and holy.

Slowly,
oh so slowly,
we make our way
to the cashier
and take our place
in the line.

As we stand,
side by side
for a few minute more –
the song playing
in the background
catches the attention
of my heart.

“Listen, sister!”

“Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Like a child on my knees
all that comes to me is
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done.

I know you see me
I know you hear me, Lord
Your plans are for me
Goodness you have in store

Thy will be done
Thy will be done.
Thy will be done.”
~Hillary Scott

We fight back tears,
thanking God
for this God
who sees us,
who hears us,
who surrounds us
and chases us down
with His goodness –
a goodness that finds us
marveling and
standing in sheer awe
together.

As we head to
the parking lot
and say “so long”,
she and I –
soul sisters
through and through –
drive away
with the same
desire in our heart and
whispering the same
prayer on our lips:

THY WILL BE DONE.~
