Trust Me With The New

Sometimes writing
comes easy.
Sometimes,
it comes hard.
And sometimes,
it doesn’t seem
to come at all.

The last few days
it hasn’t been
coming at all.

This morning,
wanting to encourage
and wanting to share,
but coming up
empty handed –
I found myself
looking through
old posts
that had already been shared,
that had already encouraged.

“Trust Me with the new.”

In a voice my spirit
easily recognized
as His Spirit,
I heard His voice.

“Who was it
who wrote
all these old posts –
you or Me?

Who was it
that inspired and
spoke to your heart
as your typed
on your worn keyboard?

Trust Me with the new.”

And while
this conversation
between my
God and me
had started
over letters and words
and encouragement
and sharing,
I knew in this word
spoken directly to my heart,
God was taking
the conversation
so much deeper.

‘Trust Me in the new’
wasn’t just His word
to me when it
came to writing,
it was His WORD
to me when it
came to living –
when it came to
the all of my living,
for the all of my days.

Sitting around
my sister’s
dining room table
last Friday night,
the book of Ecclesiastes
open in front of each
of us for our
family Bible night –
God had captured
my attention
with this one verse.

“Don’t long for
‘the good old days.’
This is not wise.
~Ecclesiastes 7:10

“Oh, this verse.
Ouch. Ouch.
I love life here
with each of you –
I do, I really do –
it’s such a blessing –
but oh do I
miss my old life –
with my husband,
in our own home,
busy with my ministry at the church,
interacting with my friends.

I love now,
but I often
catch myself
longing for then, too.
And I know
why God instructs us
through His Word
here in Ecclesiates
to not dwell on the past,
to not keep looking back,
to not keep pulling from the past.
When we do,
we miss now,
we miss the present,
we miss the new thing
He is longing to do.”

Words spoken
on Friday,
but stirred up again
this week
as God met me here
at my keyboard.

“Trust Me with the new.”

He who has
faithfully
led us in the past,
who is with us
this very day,
will be
faithfully with us
tomorrow,
and the day after that,
all our life long.

To trust Him
with the new
all we really
need to do
is to remember
the old
just long enough
to recount
His goodness,
His faithfulness,
His protection,
His provision,
His very presence then –
to remind us
He is here
with us now.

Old or new –
God is in them both.

And I know –
as God is
speaking this
beautiful truth
to me,
He is calling me
to write it here –
that this is the
on time,
perfect for now word
He is wanting
me to share
and to encourage
you with.

This is His new word
for this new day –
a word as
eternal as our God:

And the LORD.
He is the One
who goes before you.
He will be with you.
He will not leave you
nor forsake you;
do not fear
nor be dismayed.
~Deuteronomy 31:8

“Trust Me with the new.”

And in doing just that –
here is a new post –
straight from the Father –
straight to me,
straight to you
as we step out into
the new thing
God is doing.

Thank you, Lord.
