To Know God
The more I
get to know God
the more I
find myself
caught in this
great tension,
great mystery,
great mixing
of reverence
and familiarity.
He is Almighty God.
The Creator of the Universe.
Magnificent.
Majestic.
The Lord of all
and the Lord over all.
And yet,
He is also
my Abba Father.
He is the Lover of my soul.
He is the friend
who sticks closer
than a brother.
He is my counselor
and my comforter.
He is both
the One
who created
my eyes to shed tears
and the One
who wipes them dry.
He is both
the One
who created
my heart to beat
and the One
who draws close
when I am brokenhearted.
He is Alpha and Omega-
the Beginning and the End –
and yet,
He is with me –
personally and intimately –
in the middle
of every moment
of my life.
He is King of kings
and Lord of lords
and He is
the humble Christ
who bled and died.
For me.
For you.
He is all of this
and so much more.
How thankful I am –
that who He is
finds me on my knees
bowed low in
awe and reverence –
both also
running into
His open arms
as His beloved daughter.
Mighty and meek.
Holy and humble.
All-powerful and all-loving.
Yes,
the more I
get to know God
the more I
find myself
caught in this
great tension,
great mystery,
great mixing
of reverence
and familiarity.
To know God.
The One true God.
The Living God.
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
The Great I AM.
This will no doubt
take all eternity.~
