Carry God to others
Faith Walk

Everywhere I Look

Everywhere I look,
I see them.

In the kitchen sink.
In my closet.
In the crease of the sofa.
In the corner of the bathroom.
In my hair.

And it's precisely because
they are in my hair,
and stuck to my sweater,
and tucked into my pockets,
that they keep showing up
in all these other familiar
and not so familiar places.

Tiny yellow leaves.

Fall is in full swing
where I now live,
and this native New Mexican
can't get enough of
the beauty and gloriousness
this season brings
here in the Rocky Mountain state.

And as God,
only God,
would orchestrate it,
my new favorite writing spot
in my new home
is situated directly under
a huge, huge tree
that now
has begun dropping
millions of
tiny yellow leaves.

As I tap away
on my keyboard
it is as if
God is throwing
an autumn party -
complete with leaf confetti!

As the leaves rain down,
my praises go up!
To me it is
the most amazing
place to be!

I can't help but feel
as though
God, Himself,
is showering me
with His love
through all these leaf kisses.

"Why don't you move
someplace else to write?"
my mother asks.

"But then -
then the leaves
wouldn't . . . "

"Right. The leaves
wouldn't be on you
and wouldn't get tracked
all over the house."

I understand her words.
They make perfect sense.
But what she doesn't
understand is
my heart can't stay away.

And this morning
as I found a tiny leaf
in the dishwasher -
yes, the dishwasher -
(I told you - I'm tracking
them everywhere!)
God spoke
a most precious truth
to my heart.

This is how
the world discovers Me,
sweet girl.

You,
spending every day,
all day long,
under the sound
of My voice.

You,
positioning yourself
in My presence,
under My covering.

You,
listening and writing,
as My Spirit
falls all around you.

This is how
the world discovers Me,
Sweet girl.

This is how
I show up
in the familiar
and the not so familiar places
of other people's lives.

Not only are you
a carrier of leaves,
you,
in the most precious way,
are a carrier of Me.

And, so are you,
my friend.

But,
to be able
to carry
our Lord
into our world,
into all the
nooks and crannies
that so desperately need
the Light of His love,
we have to
intentionally,
purposefully,
day in and day out,
live in proximity
to our Savior,

We have to
draw near
and allow
His Spirit
to fall on us,
so that as we
walk out our lives,
His Spirit can
fall
from us
and onto others.

And as
beautiful and glorious
as fall is
here in this new place
where God has
so tenderly and lovingly
set me down,
nothing compares
to the beauty and gloriousness
of God using me,
of God using you,
to be a carrier of Himself.

Rain down, leaves.

Rain down, Holy Spirit.

May You be seen,
everywhere I look,
everywhere others look.

And may You, Lord,
be glorified
through it all.
